Today I chose to use and asymmetrical print paper from the “Fresh as a Daisy” Designer Series Paper (on the last chance list) to make a card for my Facebook/YouTube live broadcast. It coordinates with the Cheerful Daisies bundle that will be unbundled and brought forward to the new 2024-2025 Annual Catalog. I’d seen a particular card style a lot lately that offered an opportunity to show both sides of a designer series paper when the front and back complemented each other.

Choosing paper with an asymmetrical print

The page I chose to use from the pack wasn’t an obvious choice for a cris-cross card since one side had a very asymmetrical print (most of the visual interest was at the bottom 1/2 of the page) but I was up to the challenge.

Balancing an asymmetrical print

To create a balanced cris-cross design I cut a 4 inch strip from the 12 x 12 inch sheet, then cut two 5 1/4 inch pieces from each end of that. At the end of the process I will be able to create two cards of the same style but with the print and color elements in the opposite position. (Cut the small piece that is left over in half to use inside the cards.) I took each 4 x 5 1/4 piece and cut it diagonally both ways. I then found the 4 pieces (of the 8) that had the most of the interesting pattern on them and selected two to use in this card (both long edged ones in this case), putting aside the other two to use on a second card. I selected the two copper clay pieces that would complete the rectangle. I die cut the sentiment strip, then got out the coordinating gems and one of the strips.

Paper cuts and embellishments used.

I attached the selected pieces on the card base leaving a white border. I stamped the sentiment and attached it with dimensionals. Then I embellished the front with the gems and added the jute trim as well.

Which one looks better to you? The one with the daisies on the sides or with the daisies at the top and bottom? Be sure to check out this paper before the end of the month when it’s scheduled to go away forever!
