Our Sale-a-Bration is finishing strong at the moment (ending today, 8/31, actually) and I’ve fallen in love with a particular offering there. I got the Wonderful World set of stamps and designer series paper FREE with a $100 order, and I’m having a blast designing different cards with it. This one is a “Thinking of You” card can be used for a multitude of occasions…birthday, congratulations, get well, sympathy…by using differing inner sentiments or adding your personal message inside.
I love how well this design can incorporate other stamp sets or papers if you don’t have the one I used. You can use any floral stamp that fits within the hexagon shape for a focal point and using Stampin’ Write markers to color the stamp itself which takes this design and opens up lots of possibilities. I’ll go into the Stampin’Write marker technique in another post.
Making the card Step by Step
The supplies and steps for this card, though are simple.
- Basic white card stock: 1 card base (8-1/2 x 5-1/2, scored at 4-1/4), one piece cut at 4 x 5-1/4. Use the Delicate Edges Dies to cut the bottom, then emboss that piece using the Quatrefoil Tile Embossing folder. Use a scrap to stamp the sentiment in a green matching your trim, then cut the ends at an angle.
- Choose one of the small florals on your Wonderful World designer paper and cut it out using the hexagon from the Beautiful Shapes dies. (Alternately, cut the hexagon from basic white card stock and then stamp with a focus floral.)
- Green card stock to match the greens in your floral (in this case, Pear Pizzaz or Mossy Meadow). Cut a 1×4 inch strip and attach under the “lace” of the die-cut border using Stampin’Seal. Using the Stylish Shapes dies, cut the double-end banner to place behind the hexagon floral for contrast.
- Assemble the pieces: Attach embossed white with trim to the card base using dimensionals. Attach the banner to this layer, then attach floral centered on the banner, using dimensionals. Attach sentiment using dimensionals.
Inner card
Once you have completed your card front, use a coordinating stamp on the inside of the card; choose the stamp color that reflects the floral on the front. For example, I used Starry Sky on the inner stamp for the card just above, but Highland Heather on the one above that. Try “stamping off” so that the inner stamp would be a lighter shade. (Load your stamp with ink, “stamp off” on a scratch paper, then stamp the image on your card. Voila! You now have a lighter version of the same color!)
You will love using a “Thinking of You” sentiment on this card! Send a message letting them know “I am ‘Thinking of You'”… on your birthday, on your anniversary, when you’re feeling unwell. What a great card for any occasion!!
